On Thursday tour I saw one of the best homes I’ve ever seen, a Capitol Hill half-timbered Tudor mansion with so much attention to detail – so many exquisite details! – that I haven’t stopped fantasizing about it since. Miles of mahogany woodwork, gorgeous leaded glass windows, a huge entertainment-style kitchen, a second floor gallery, a third floor ballroom, a rooftop terrace, perfectly landscaped grounds. Every bathroom perfectly renovated to reflect the character of the home but with a modern twist.
Because the house encompasses over 8400 feet, with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, this particular fantasy I am having includes inviting five other friends move into it with me. With an asking price of $4,000,000, I figure each of us could chip in for about $650,000, we’d have our own bedrooms, and we’d have about 1400 square feet per person in which to roam about. Enough!
Otherwise, though it’s a stunning masterpiece of a home, it’s a little too large to imagine life in such a place. Just keeping up with the dusting would be daunting. And can you imagine the utility bills? But with six separate owners, such things could be manageable. Also, someone would always be around with whom to drink tea or be cajoled into a game of Scrabble.
I think I’m really onto something here.
